James & Lucretia Garfield: A Portrait of a 19th Century Marriage In-Person

President and Mrs. James A. Garfield’s relationship was typical of others in the 19th Century. However, there were some glitches along the way that might surprise you.  This historic reenactment will be presented by a member of the James A. Garfield National Historic Site.

Through Lucretia’s own words, you’ll learn how she crossed paths with James Garfield of Orange Township and their lengthy courtship, along with tales about high- and low-points during their 22-year marriage. Children – and politics – are woven into the First Lady’s story as she begins her tenure in the Executive Mansion.
