Geauga County Genealogical Society- DNA Basics: What Do We Get from Our Ancestors? In-Person
Kelli Bergheimer, an international genealogical speaker, works in education, as well as for Your DNA Guide. She runs the genealogy YouTube “Mess on the Desk” channel and facilitates an online DNA interest group.
Kelli will focus on the science of DNA and why it helps in genealogy. But she cautions that DNA tests can reveal long kept family secrets. She will cover: matrilineal and patrilineal tests, the five major DNA testing companies - Ancestry, 23andMe, FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritage DNA and Living DNA. NE Ohio has some strong ethnic communities that might find more matches in the European based MyHeritage DNA and Living DNA.
